Roblox No Longer Facing Ban in the Philippines After Complying With Child Safety Measures & Security Requirements

Roblox in the Philippines remains uncertain as government regulators continue to evaluate its compliance with child-safety requirements. Philippine authorities, led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), have warned that the platform could still face suspension or a nationwide ban if stronger safeguards are not fully implemented. While Roblox has begun cooperating with officials and proposing new safety features aimed at protecting minors, regulators say the platform will remain under close monitoring as the government works to ensure safer digital spaces for Filipino children.

MANILA, Philippines – The future of the popular online gaming platform Roblox in the Philippines remains uncertain, as government officials warn that the platform could still face suspension or a nationwide ban if it fails to fully comply with safety requirements designed to protect children online.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) earlier issued a warning to Roblox, emphasizing that the company must directly coordinate with Philippine regulators and implement stronger safeguards amid rising concerns over child safety on the platform. Authorities have been investigating reports that minors may be exposed to harmful interactions, including inappropriate content and potential exploitation.

Although Roblox recently held discussions with Philippine officials and agreed to implement additional safety measures, government regulators made it clear that the possibility of banning the platform has not been completely ruled out.

The concerns raised by Philippine authorities mirror similar issues being examined abroad. In the United States, officials in Los Angeles County have filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the platform of exposing young users to sexual content, exploitation, and online predators. The case has intensified global scrutiny of online gaming platforms and the responsibility of technology companies to ensure the safety of their younger audiences.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda acknowledged that while Roblox has proposed several updates aimed at improving user protection, no system can guarantee absolute safety. Nevertheless, he expressed appreciation for the company’s willingness to cooperate with Philippine authorities.

According to Aguda, Roblox representatives demonstrated an understanding of the government’s concerns during their discussions.

“We appreciate the initiative of Roblox. Next week, we will hold another press conference where we will inaugurate the new safety features they plan to introduce here in the Philippines,” Aguda said. “They only asked for a little more time.”

Due Process Before Any Ban

Despite mounting pressure from advocacy groups and concerned parents, Aguda stressed that the government cannot immediately impose a ban without following proper legal procedures.

He explained that regulatory actions against digital platforms must undergo due process to avoid violating existing laws or international standards governing digital services.

“We have already issued a notice to Roblox,” Aguda said. “You cannot simply ban a platform overnight. There must be proper notification first. That is the process we follow at the DICT. We act quickly, but we also follow the law.”

He added that companies must also be given a reasonable timeframe to respond and implement corrective measures.

“We also have to give them reasonable time. We cannot be unreasonable,” Aguda said. “To their credit, they responded quickly. Our legal team also played an important role in facilitating these discussions.”

During their discussions with Philippine regulators, Roblox reportedly agreed to introduce several “safety-by-design” measures aimed at protecting young users.

Among the proposed changes are:

  • Default disabling of chat features for younger players
  • Restrictions on digital payments within accounts belonging to minors
  • Automatic removal of chat access for children aged nine and below

These features are expected to reduce the risk of harmful interactions between minors and strangers within the platform.

DICT officials said these reforms are part of a broader effort to make online gaming environments safer for Filipino children.

Concerns were raised about activities such as online grooming, sexual exploitation, illegal drug transactions, and extremist groups attempting to reach young users.
March 18, 2026Roblox Put on Official NoticeThe Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) together with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) issued a formal warning to Roblox. The company was urged to strengthen its child-protection measures or risk possible restrictions in the country.
March 20, 2026Government Threatens Nationwide BanThe CICC announced that Roblox could face a nationwide ban if it failed to cooperate with Philippine authorities. Officials stated that the platform was reportedly being misused by individuals involved in crimes targeting minors.
Late March 202630-Day Ultimatum IssuedThe government gave Roblox a 30-day deadline to improve its safety systems and respond to the concerns. If the company did not comply, authorities considered blocking Roblox servers, asking telecom providers to limit access, and requesting app stores such as Google Play and Apple App Store to remove the app in the Philippines.
March 25, 2026Deadline ShortenedBecause of growing complaints from parents and reports of harmful content affecting children, authorities reduced the compliance period to around 15 days for Roblox to implement stronger safeguards.

Possible Office in the Philippines

Beyond technical safeguards, government officials are also exploring long-term regulatory measures, including the possibility of establishing a Roblox office in the Philippines.

Aguda revealed that discussions are underway regarding deeper cooperation between the company and Philippine authorities. One proposal includes integrating Roblox’s age verification system with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in order to strengthen identity verification for users.

Such a system could help ensure that minors are accurately identified and protected through age-appropriate platform restrictions.

“Hindi lang naman Pilipinas ang humihingi nito,” Aguda said, noting that other countries are also requesting stronger identity verification systems from digital platforms.

He added that a formal roadmap outlining the government’s partnership with Roblox may be finalized soon.

“We are hopeful that by next week we can formalize the agreements and lay out the roadmap,” he said.

Ban Still “Not Off the Table”

Meanwhile, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) reiterated that while progress has been made, the possibility of banning Roblox has not been completely removed from consideration.

CICC Executive Director Renato “Aboy” Paraiso clarified that the government had initially set an April 10 deadline for Roblox to respond to the country’s concerns.

Although the platform’s compliance efforts helped avert an immediate ban, authorities are still evaluating whether the proposed changes will be effectively implemented.

“Just to clarify, the ban is not entirely off the table,” Paraiso said during a press briefing. “The deadline we set for April 10 was temporarily averted because of their willingness to comply.”

He noted that Roblox has shown openness to most of the government’s requests.

“To be fair, almost everything we asked from them, they were amenable to,” Paraiso said. “Now it is just a matter of how we will execute these commitments.”

Philippine Agency Continued Monitoring

DICT officials said that additional meetings with Roblox representatives are scheduled in the coming days to finalize implementation details and address the removal of harmful content on the platform.

Authorities emphasized that protecting Filipino children in the digital space remains their top priority.

As online gaming continues to grow in popularity among younger users, regulators around the world—including in the Philippines—are increasingly pushing technology companies to take greater responsibility for safeguarding their platforms.

For now, Roblox remains accessible in the Philippines. However, the government has made it clear that the platform’s continued operation will depend on its ability to deliver concrete and effective safety reforms.

If Roblox fails to meet the government’s expectations, officials warned that stronger regulatory action including a potential ban could still be enforced in the future. #aptikons
